Things to do
If you can tear yourself away from the relaxing surroundings of the gite then there are loads of places waiting to be explored and plenty of outdoor activities to keep you occupied!
Fishing is well covered in the immediate area and there are several fishing lakes within 10 minutes of us where you can fish for trout, bass and carp. You can also obtain licences from the village shop which allow you to fish on the public lakes and rivers. Contact us if you’d like to know more!
If you love cycling then you couldn’t come to a better place! The roads and lanes are quiet and well maintained and if off roading is your thing then there are plenty of well sign posted tracks and routes as well! Click on this link www.dordogecyclehire.com for more info on bike hire. This company is run by lovely, friendly and helpful folk who will deliver straight to our gite so your bikes will be ready and waiting for you on arrival.
I could list forever beautiful towns and villages to visit, picturesque lakes for swimming in, rivers to canoe, markets to browse and chateaux to admire but I think this website does a better job than I can!! Click on the link and you will discover the many and varied delights of the Perigord Vert…and if your french is not so good then look to the top right of the home page and there is a GB button to click and it will magically translate for you!

Also worth a click is the site below as it shows distances to places from Saint-Jory along with info on the places too and scroll down the page further to find a list of the nearest markets and days they are on.

We are situated halfway between the two lovely villages of Saint-Jory- de-Chalais and Mialet in a tiny hamlet called Vialezin. It’s a gentle 2 mile stroll (or 5 minutes in the car!) into saint-jory from the gite and just a little bit further to Mialet. Between the two villages there are a butchers, bakers, general store, post office, restaurants and bars so you don’t have to venture far for anything! The small town of La Coquille, which is 10 minutes from us, has a small but really well stocked Carrefour supermarket along with butchers, bakery, restaurants and bars.
The pretty market town of Thiviers is 20 minutes in the car and has a variety of supermarkets including a large newly opened Lidl which should cover anything you might need for your stay! The old town has lots of pretty independent shops that are definitely worth a browse around and a nice cafe in the market square where you can sit outside enjoying a coffee, beer or wine and watch the world go by!
